Drifting

People are creatures of habit. We like predictability and we like familiarity. It’s ok. It’s just who we are. One of the many things that has been lost during the COVID-19 crisis is the routine that most of us go through each day. Those of us who switched to working from home had to quickly redevelop our routine. Some, like college students, got the rug pulled completely out from under them. College students happily went home for spring break and never returned to campus (Well, maybe to pick up their things, but still). They had a pretty complete separation from friends and their living space, and their classes. Of course classes continued online but that was a huge adjustment for some. Those of us who switched to working from home often found it difficult as well. If you ever wandered into your kitchen for the 8th time before lunch time simply because you needed something to do, you know what I am talking about. Rebuilding routine and schedule is a key component in surviving catastrophic changes in our lives. If you continue to struggle with what to do with your days, or if you find yourself just drifting each day, maybe spend a few minutes building a loose schedule for yourself. It gives you something to focus on and momentum for your day. This whole thing has been difficult, and we will discuss other parts of it, but getting some kind or routine established is essential to feeling more like yourself again.

Until next time, Thanks & take care,

AmyZ
